Food Design Week - Venice, Italy

FOOD DESIGN WEEK
 -  February 2018  //  Palazzo Michiel  //  Venice, Italy  -

Food Design Week - an exhibition week running from February 1-7, during the Venetian Carnival.
The exhibition, themed VANITAS, was inspired by the wealth, luxury, and abundance of the Dutch Golden Age still-life paintings.
What resulted was a pop-up exhibition that explored abundance, vanity, and the self-destructive nature of the contemporary food industry.  Innovative creators and dining/food designers were invited to explore these topics through their performance, installations, films or objects.

BLACKOUT Dinner
- sensorial food art & performance dinner -

An alternative to traditional Carnival celebrations and a chance to return to your senses through this exploratory food art and performance dinner night.  Set inside Palazzo Michiel, one of Venice’s best-known classical palaces on the Grand Canal, dining with a select group surrounded by exclusive art and design.
During the BLACKOUT dinner night, we disconnected sight as the primary source of information, giving the diner a chance to reconnect, question, and heighten their perceptions.  In a current age of excess, immoderation, and sensorial saturation, BLACKOUT invited diners to return to their senses - their own simple, natural, and even animal instincts - with an even deeper hope to awaken one of our most unused senses: the intuition  //  What are you really feeling?

SWEET FIELDS
- A playful food art installation on sensation pollution -

In an environment of excess, exaggeration, and indulgence, we can ask: what am I really feeling? what do I really want?
With ever-increasing options and ever-decreasing caliber, we find ourselves overwhelmed and under-sensed.
How can we plod through this saturation of taste, color, and form to find the elements of honest flavor, sincere nourishment, timeless aesthetics, and lasting energy.  An invitation to recollect our authentic youthful and carnal instincts, to retake our senses as our own, and to enjoy and express them in their truest and most genuine form.

Choose for yourself; todo el año es Carnival.
