｜策展概念｜

字型不僅是美麗的視覺組成，也是「現代設計的基礎建設」— 無數傑出思想必得仰賴字型使之具體。

漢字，數以萬計，設計大不易。字型設計師只能一字字地做，無法以機器取代之。

字的汪洋中，創作者一撇一捺，獨自堆起一小塊新生地。「島」是這些人的象徵。

但做字的人星羅棋布，多是孤島。默默完成作品，默默鼓勵自己。

他們的專業態度、不足為外人道的堅持，以及日夜努力的成果，往往不受社會矚目、稱頌。

雖然，這對他們成事的心願毫無差異，但長久以來，卻為社會帶來負面影響。

不了解字型設計的價值與貢獻，難有更多活水投入，就難以帶來正向循環。
因此我們提議，現在就把這些島嶼標示出來吧！讓全世界都看見他們的努力與堅持。
字的新土壤會慢慢鋪好。給點關注，投注些耐心，並把他們串連起來，陪伴、琢磨，期待這些島嶼，總有一天成為孕育新機的天堂。

｜視覺設計概念｜

島，為創作者的象徵，造字的創作過程，獨自築起心中理想的地貌。

島，也是台灣這塊土地和文化所積累的養分，提供創作者孕育出作品的豐富養分。

以字體構成環境空間

視覺設計以「島」字為核心，從二維平面轉向成三維的空間概念，將字體立體化、具象化的方式。傳達字體構成環境空間，環境空間也是字體本身。設計延伸應用以不同的構成形式在這立體的框架中，展示多樣性和可塑性，其中透過插畫的延展出各種不同的質地的圖騰，猶如島嶼地質的剖面，傳達台灣島嶼上文化的多樣性。

視覺行銷策略

島：字型提案概念展，以插畫為主要構成的視覺元素，希望拉近一般大眾對於字型設計的距離。

引發大眾對於字型設計的好奇和想像。

Visual design concept

Islands symbolize font designers, who create ideal landscapes in mind when designing their works. The idea of an island also represent the island of Taiwan itself, whose rich culture is an abundant offering for designers.

Exhibition Introduction

The Exhibition“Islands” features 6 Chinese font proposals by 6 Taiwanese designers and design team. Inspired by everyday things such as highway letterings to cream and tea, the creators attempt to make their proposals“emerge” to public agenda. By Illuminating stories behind each proposal and demonstrating how they would look when applied to everyday products, the exhibition focuses on conveying that type design is professional domain knowledge, which worths people's attention and appreciation.

Structuring a space trough type

We fostered our key visual design around the idea of an island. The Hanzi Character 島（dǎo） was set with the typeface “Jinxuan”. However, it is not represented in a flat world view. It was transformed into a three-dimensional object, a creative space which had been structured through a typeface. We use such thinking as a tool to elaborate the concept of an island, with an attempt to explore a myriad of its meaning. The illustrations, in particular, exhibits a variety of textures and symbols, which are all possible sections of an island’s geography. We aim to convey the richness of its soil and the diversity of culture on such an island.

Illustration concept

Islands: a Collections of Font Design Concepts is an exhibition whose key visual was formed around illustration, instead of abstract typography composition. We appeal to the general public and aim to stimulate their curiosity and imagination of font design.

Islands symbolize font designers, who create ideal landscapes in mind when designing their works. The idea of an island also represent the island of Taiwan itself, whose rich culture is an abundant offering for designers.
