Songs and the City - Music and typography in motion project where every week I post one new poster or billboard all around our globe's capital. New York, Berlin and LA all bow down to the 80s and 90s catchy tunes. Read Less

Do you ever have those days when you wake up and have a song stuck in your head for no reason? Not something you heard in a bar or on Netflix. It just comes into your mind unannounced and stays there for the day. You go outside, put the song on Spotify, take the transport and then start seeing it everywhere. It's on the walls, in the subway, in all the billboards, posters, street signs.
This is how the 'Songs and the City' project started. As a weekly Instagram thing. I would think of these 80s and 90s hits in the morning and then wait the whole day to come back home in the evening and make them into something visual. Inspired by the cities and the music videos, I created these mockups that made people live through the same experience as me. And then I would post it, come back to the office in the morning and find my colleagues sing them through the day together with me. Now they even make suggestions and leave post-its with titles on my desk.

These are just the first 10 amazing hits I posted in the last couple of months, but I'll continue making them and if we're all patient we can go to infinity (or whatever the number of 90s hits is, so probably not infinity).
The first and the favourite. Coming back from holidays and thinking about Soul II Soul obviously. Back to life - back to reality.

I was never gonna do an 80s throwback list without Rick Astley. And why would I. This is a personal favourite and a mantra in every way.

This one is not even from the 80s or 90s but it's so catchy it fits. Thanks to Bob Marley and the Paul Smith Showroom in LA.
The best written and most honest love story ever. If you have half a brain you already checked it out (I don't and I didn't until this project and now this is my only regret in life).
Last weekend was the Berlin Gallery Weekend and the Spruth Magers gallery had this masterpiece to offer.

Follow Songs and the City on Instagram and expect more to come - and let me know if you have suggestions.
