Idea of Project

The jellyfish-shaped mood light presented here is an example of bionics-inspired design. The designer employed controllable LED strips and glass craftsmanship to recreate and transform the unique features of a jellyfish's self-luminosity and floating ability in water. To bring this concept to reality, the design team created a 3D model of the product and enlisted the help of a glass master in Hsinchu city. With the help of glass blowing techniques, the master carefully shaped the glass to match the intended appearance of a jellyfish. To enhance the authenticity of the design, the master applied a chemical smear to the glass surface to convey the transparency of the jellyfish successfully.

To further enhance the jellyfish's appearance, the designers experimented with different lighting options for the glass base. Initially, a Tungsten bulb was planned, but it was found that its high heat output was not suitable for this design. After conducting some research, a decision was made to switch to a stable LED light, which not only produces less heat but also better presents the color of the ocean creature.

The designers aimed to discover more potential with the product. They accomplished GULOO by integrating seven colors into the LED light, which could be adjusted to different lighting frequencies using a controller. Furthermore, GULOO can be charged easily and conveniently by most electronic devices because of its USB connector. Not only is GULOO a mood light, but it is also a masterpiece that captures the elegance and modernity of a jellyfish. Its design is a tribute to the essence and beauty of the creature, making it a work of art as well.
