This was a commission for illustration and design for the cover of the Voto de tinieblas (Vote of Darkness), written by Rodrigo Parra Sandoval and edited by Ediciones B (COLOMBIA). On this occasion, more than drawing an illustration, it was more a work of digital painting starting with traditional acrylic and finishing in Photoshop. Actually a laborious work and care in the details to achieve evoke something of the technique of the time, this because Voto de tinieblas (Vote of Darkness) is a historical novel.
This book is quite interesting and impressive, just to understand what a vote of darkness consists of is already an almost surreal but sadly true situation. It was a medieval punishment in which some nuns were confined in limited enclosures, sometimes on the outside of the churches, dedicated to prayer and contemplative life, keeping with very little food that was provided through a grid.
Voto de tinieblas (Vote of Darkness) was a cover illustration and design project that I enjoyed doing a lot and I think the final result was liked by the author, the editor and the publisher.
