This was a personal project that was designed and manufactured in my spare time. I was inspired by the use of concrete used to create products such as plant pots, worktops and lamps. I created my initial concept using a CAD model of the product to enable me to visualise the end product. I refined my idea to incorporate of a metal pole with a composite concrete body and a wooden hand turned base. I then created a manufacturing process by using a recycled plastic bottle as the mould which incorporated the metal pipe into the centre of the mould. This process required an element of trial and error due to the mould and metal pipe in alignment during the setting process. After overcoming this teething problem, I finished the main body and top of the lamp. I then for the base selected a piece of walnut wood which I turned using a lathe to create the base of the lamp. Once that was completed, I wired the electrical components in to the lamp and added the light fitting and shade.
