Project 2: Makers
For the ISTD project I chose the Makers brief. I was asked to create a book that was based on celebrating the craft of a craftsperson. I decided to write my journal magazine “HOME” on a couple who, in 1997 began to self build their home from an old Railway stores, resulting in a 9 year building project.
The concept of this book is inspired by journals and magazines. The finished piece seeks to tell the story of their journey in detail. It is broken down into three sections; Life before, Life during and Up-skilling. There is a mix of original images throughout the journal, ranging from the construction stages to the finished home. A simple, structured layout with a strict grid system allows for the journal to flow and read proficiently. The Tone of voice is welcoming, homely and crafty. Reflecting the project itself, the book is printed on uncoated, recycled paper.
