    This is the set design for the play Arsenic and Old Lace by Joseph O. Kesselring. This play takes place in 1941 in a small Victorian house, inhabited by two sweet old ladies. Martha and Abby Brewster. The play centers around these two women and their odd "charity work". These sweet old-ladies poison old men who have no relatives and seem to be very unhappy. Since this play is a comedy with some dark undertones, I decided I wanted my design to be somewhat dark and ominous. I chose to have a lot of dark hardwood and very tall walls to make the audience feel as though they're really looking into an old Victorian style house. I chose to raise the bench seat so there would be a large emphasis on it's importance throughout the play. Read Less
