Design Concept

Time, seasons, weather -- these factors influence the street view, making a city living and ever-changing. In Gothenburg, the city on the west coast of Sweden, it rains a lot through out the year. Though the continuous rain or long cold winter may not sounds as pleasant as the bright sunny days, can they be something to expect?

Weather Patterns parklet is a public resting space that changes its appearance in the rain or in winter, painting the bad weather with colorful patterns. People can rest and relax on the parklet in sunny days; and when it rains, the color of the patterns shows, creating surprise for people in the bad weather.
About Parklet

Originated in San Francisco, parklets are small but relaxing spots for people in the city. They are sited along the curb line on streets, where on-street parking spaces exist. Parklets in Gothenburg will be removed when the winter comes, since the plants on them can not stand the coldness. The mission is to redesign parklets in Gothenburg, making them suitable for all seasons.
Patterns

The patterns on the parklet are inspired by the trees and leaves, which change colors with the seasons and time. The patterns are white in the sunny days, and become colorful when it rains.

The patterns on the surface are covered with hydrochromic ink, which is white when it is dry, and become transparent when touching water, revealing the color underneath.
In winter

When it is too cold for plants living on the street, additional covers will be installed above where the plants were, creating a winter-special appearance.
