Ideals of beauty are transient, but beauty never fades.
Since the second half of the 20th century, modern media helps spreading guidelines how women have to look to match the current ideal of beauty. Starting in ancient times, the beauty of women is a central topic.
The broad spectrum of perceptions range from the inconspicuous, shameful appearance to the overwhelming, voluptuous femininity.
An iOS-App was developed to visualize this diversity with the help of a timeline. Augmented reality is used to render a female head, that matches the ideal of beauty of the selected time, onto a self-modeled clay-torso. The view through iPad or iPhone allows the viewer to experience an exciting time-travel by encountering different virtual characters. All the details in facial structure, hair and make-up of these characters can be closely looked at by moving around the three-dimensional space of the object. An overlay with additional information can be displayed with the touch of a button.
