The Eudaimonian Man
This artwork represents each person’s continual exploration and journey of bettering oneself. Socrates states that man is composed of three main subjects, the physical, the mental and the spiritual. As we explore these three subjects we can start to understand why and how humans behave the way they behave.
The physical aspects focuses on the body and maintaing health and developing strong bodies to be able to sustain ourselves. The mental focusus on the mind and to explore new ideas and knowledge to continually improve the mind. The spiritual focusus on the morals, ethics and beliefs on what makes us human and differentiate ourselves from animals.
According to another philosopher Aristotle, all humans seek to florish. Continually seeking and having fullfilling life. In reality achiving to become a perfect man is impossible.
The painting signifies the journey and the seach for eudaimonia, the traveller represented by an airship navigating through a sea of clouds and darkness.
