Dodge Wayfarer: 2015 Concept for 2025

This project is the result of a FCA sponsored studio I had back in 2015. They asked us, "what makes an icon?" and we were tasked with designing an iconic Dodge for 2025.

I studied hundreds of cars and I realized that cars such as the Corvette, Beetle, and 'Jeep' didn't become icons because they were designed that way. They evolved into icons because they became an excellent answer to a human desire; the Corvette answered post-war America's desire for a sports car, the Beetle solved Germany's desire for affordable transportation, and the 'Jeep' fulfilled military desires for a reliable, lightweight 4-wheel-drive vehicle.

These cars completely satisfied desires, sold handsomely throughout generations, and became international icons.

I chose the 1949 Dodge Wayfarer as the spiritual descendent for my project because it truly answered the desires of post-war America; a record breaking 260,000 units were sold for it's first generation 1949 model year. Compare that to the 3,640 Corvettes built and slowly sold in it's first generation, 1954.
