The brief for this project was to design two handbooks for the Time to Adjust programme — Treatment Manual for the therapist and Patient’s handbook. Participant’s of Time to Adjust Programme are women recovering from breast cancer. The aim of this programme is to help women tackle the after math of treatments—the psychological and physical effects of ἀghting with cancer. The topic is a very sensitive one, therefore it had to be dealt with in a delicate and careful manner.

Patient’s that are taking part in this programme are often experiencing a broad range of negative emotions such as anxiety, anger, fear, distress etc. Through the design of the patient’s handbook I wanted to create three main feelings:Sense of ControlWarmth and ComfortFeninityI wanted to achieve this through the images of textures that can be found in every woman’s life — Comforting such as blanket, soft towel, pillow; and Feminine such as a dress, coat etc. Colour scheme chosen is warm and relaxing. The content is colour coded and also can be navigated through easily due to tabs.

The difference between Treatment Manual and Patient handbook are the notes that are included in Treatment Manual for the therapist. These are clearly marked, in order for the therapist to be able to tell apart the parts to be read out to patients and parts for just his own information.
