The Weekend Jazz Festival was incorporated in New York City and is owned by the Blue Note records.
The first festival took place during the spring of 1947. Today it has become one of the largest festival of its kind in United States of America, and since 1970 has been named Best American Festival ever in Down Beat Magazine.
For 3 days each spring, the city of New York bursts into song as the Weekend Jazz Festival plays host to hundreds of world class artists. Over 80,000 hungry music fans devour the sounds of jazz, blues, funk, and world music each year, with a program that spans as many genres as it does continents.
