The Old-town Movement
헌마을 캠페인
President Park Jung Hee came to power during the 1970s and formed an authoritarian government. Under Park Jung Hee's presidency, the father of Ms.Park (the impeached previous president of South Korea), majority of regional towns were remodeled by a campaign.
The campaign was called "New Town Movement". The name speaks for itself. This was intended to abruptly turn old towns into new ones without keeping a balance between previous-past and future. There are many perceptions in judging this campaign. Although, this is a kind of PROPAGANDA to make a legitimacy of the coup military government, it affected the society-promoting economic growth, and destroying culture.
Ms.Park was trying to revive "New Town Movement" after she got elected in 2013. However, her efforts in re-establishing this movement does not make any sense. South Korea is already (too much) developed country, and everything is (too much) new. Making a new town? Where and for what? It was just kind of another propaganda - only the legacy she has from her father - so I'd like to twist it with Marijuana symbol. Hey, we need to keep the old things. No more new things!
THE OLD TOWN
IF YOU ENVY THE ADVANCED COUNTRY
DO NOT DESTROY THE ORDINARY HOMES
DO MOVE FOR THE HEALTH
NOT FOR NEW TOWN MOVEMENT
THE MORNING BELL HAS RANG
THE NEW MORNING HAS LIT UP
NOW WE THAT WE ARE WAKEN
OUR TOWN HAS BEEN DESTROYED
This paragraphs came from the lyric of the song of the campaign ;
original lyric is different on last sentence, "So let we make a new town"
YOU GAVE A SHIT TO OUR TOWN
THEN BUILDING A NEW TOWN?
SHIT
