The RTA 3D Printed Bus stop 'Sadaf' is a Schematic Proposal by MEAN* for Innovation Week that imagines a future where 3D printing could be used build the infrastructure of the city of Dubai. The design is inspired by the form of the seashells found on the beaches of the city.

Additive manufacturing is a process found in nature, in which layers of material are added to make a complex optimal structure that saves time, money and resources. The bus stop is designed to be panelized in pieces, which would fit the bounding box of industrial 3D printers. Every piece is unique, and interlocks to its neighbor to easily construct the structure. The modules of the bus stop could be transported to 2000 locations across the city, and assembled into a lightweight, efficient structure, that gives a new identity to the city of Dubai.
