This year I had the chance to create an illustration for a novel by best selling writer Deborah Ritchie. We were also asked to create the brand identity and promotional graphics for this short story and to consider the art direction, title design, illustration and layout for a cover jacket. Additionally, promotional material for online and print based advertising was required. My cover illustration is a final representation of the main character, Lola. Towards the end of the novel she transforms from a dark and withdrawn character to a strong female character, displaying confidence and maturity. To achieve this, I have used simple shapes with contrasting vector lines with a minimal and balanced design layout to compliment the bold illustration on the cover. I wanted the cover to communicate the tone of the book and to have a refreshing and playful feel.
