City icons for a travel magazine
The popular travel magazine ‘Globe Trotter’ features articles and blogs by real people travelling around the world. Each month, the magazine will feature 4 travellers in 4 different cities writing about the place, the food, the experience, and the art & culture.
They’ve produced some market research and they want to drastically reduce the amount of words in the magazine. In response, Globe Trotter have decided that they want a set of icons to illustrate each of the cities featured every month.
We want you to select 4 of your favourite cities that you’ve visited and illustrate an icon that epitomises each. This should be a universally recognisable symbol, so make sure you do lots of research to find out what makes your chosen city so special and unique. You can pick any style for the icons, but remember, they must be uniform so as to work well together.
For me the main focus point for this project is to ensure that each icon works well together, this can be done by using the same colours, thickness of lines and shape the icon will be placed in. It is also important to stick to the clients brief, such as to only use 4 colours, this can be due to large printing costs, or to just fit their style.
The starting point for this brief is to then look into what features make certain cities memorable, this will then give me an idea of what to illustrate. To find inspiration I will then look into already existing icons that help to illustrate a city.
