Tips to keep your tyres in good condition

Tips to keep your tyres in good condition
It is easy to ignorethe fact that our car’s tyres are the direct contact between the car and road surface. For this reason, maintaining the good condition of your vehicle’s tyres it is essential to maintain road safety and mobility. Therefore, we at Phillips Tyres, Oxford advise you to adhere to the following safety tips.
1. The tyre tread
A BIG TASK FOR A SMALL SURFACE
The area of a tyre that actually touches the road surface at a time is just postcard size. Your safety, your driving comfort and your fuel savings depend on this tiny area. So you better make sure to choose the appropriate tyres and maintain them regularly.
Always remember, your tyres mean direct connection to the road plus carry all the weight of the vehicle and everything/everyone in it.
2. Wear and tread depth of the tyre
A QUICK AND EASY SAFETY MEASURE
Check the tyre tread of your vehicle’s tyres regularly and change them before the tread has worn down to 1.6 mm. To make things easier for you, many quality tyres have indicators that indicate wear on the profile. These indicators are located at the bottom of the tread.
Remember: Your and your passenger’s safety depend on sufficient tread depth!
The tread pattern absorbs the water under your tyre and give you control over your vehicle.
The more residual profile there is, the better the water can be taken in order to reduce the aquaplaning risk.
The profile adheres to the ground and thus has a positive effect on the braking distance.
3. Air in your tyres
CONTROL YOUR TYRE’S AIR PRESSUREONCE A MONTH
With the right tyre inflation pressure, you maintain control over your vehicle and also protect the tyres from untimelywear and damage. Tyres may lose pressure over time due to tiny damage or perforations, so air escapes naturally through the components of the rubber compound, or falling outside temperatures. Check your tyre pressure once a month as well as before long journeys. Do not forget to also check your spare tyre!
Pressure must be checked on the cold tyres. This means that the tyres have not been driven for a minimum of two hours or has been driven less than 1,5 miles. In case the pressure is checked on the operating-warm tyre, 0.3 Bar must be added to the setpoint pressure.

Always remember: A wrong tyre pressure:
increases the risk of tyre damage.

10. Lifespan
RECOGNISE WHEN YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR TYRES
The aging of a tyre is very individual and depends on many factors. An accurate prediction of the lifetime is therefore not possible in advance.
For this reason, we would like to sensitise motorists to regularly check the visible condition of their tyres.
Tyres used for five or more years should be checked by an expert at least once a year.
You should also follow the recommendations for changing tyres of the vehicle manufacturer.
