Wide angle lenses are odd because they trick us into leaving the camera and seeing out of our normal eyesight again.
This engenders the camera to be less of a barrier between the photographer and the environment.
I'd say this is why wide-angle shots are inherently startling and stunning to gaze upon.
These pictures are not fat, just wide-boned.
