The Alienist TV Promo Pitch
Concept storyboard for the TV promo spot for the new show "The Alienist" by TNT
Based on Caleb Carr's best selling novel, "The Alienist" is set in 1896 in the up and coming New York. Alienist was the name given to psychiatrists at the time and the story follows Dr. Laszio Kreizier as he is tasked by the police commissioner to use the emerging discipline of psychology to track down one of New York's first serial killers. As we follow these big characters around, New York City is just as important to the story, as it was quickly becoming a city of contradictions where enormous wealth and newly minted millionaires bumped up next to squalor and poverty.
My idea for the promo was to show the small intricate details of New York City as it was evolving to the powerhouse we know today. Starting with a shot of the Statue of Liberty the viewer would be shown vignettes and shadows of glamour and wealth, before turning sour to show how the other half live with death and poverty. Hints of shady deals and gangsters would be seen causing trouble before right at the end our serial killer would make a impact on the sequence, leaving a trail of blood for our psychologist or "Alienist" to find, before revealing the show logo.
