Understanding Japan: Moon Ceremony from the Crow Castle

Understanding Japan: Being Lost in Admiration of the Full Moon in the Crow Castle

Originally constracted as a military defense and headquarters, the Castle of Matsumoto was lately expanded and gained an additional tower with wide windows and outside galleries. This tower was no longer aimed for defence, it had a civil purpose – it hosted a Tsukimi no En ceremony, a ritual of admiring the full moon in the end of summer.

The castle of Matsumoto is a national treasure of Japan, it is one of three castles in the country which preserved original constractions. It has dramatic black walls and roofs, that is why it is also called a Crow Castle.
Other light direction changes the illustration completely.
I colored the pyramids with acrylic silver paint.
The new tower purposed for Moon ceremony is a small one with red balcony.
