Layout editing at Convergence
In December 2012, I graduated from layout at the junior student newspaper at Upper Canada College and joined the layout team of the official student newspaper, Convergence. The cohort of layout editors was graduating that year while I had another four years of school to trudge through, so while I was alone in the layout team, I overhauled the layout and burned the midnight oil to push 14 releases until my graduation in 2015.
I tried to stratify the consumption pattern from our... sometimes inattentive reader base, condensing information into infographics, augmenting pictures with textual details and pull-quoting impactful excerpts from articles. (And, of course, trying to make the package look gorgeous.)
I served as an Editor-in-Chief for the final year. [Though the post was admittedly somewhat honorary, as I was still the only person doing any layout for most of the year anyways...]
I owe this job a continued interest in print design, and basically any sense of time management I have as a designer.
An online archive for the paper was created after I left, and contains the issues I had a hand in (up to May 2015). Thank you for enjoying!
