RedPlum Connect Shared Mail Insert Concept

These booklets were prototypes designed to showcase a new shared mail insert concept for Valassis, a company that specializes in “intelligent media delivery.” I worked with Harland Clarke’s New Product Development team to explore new targeted insert formats that would give Valassis’ clients improved capabilities while better serving their end users.

Based on our research and earlier iterations, we produced an editorially driven print vehicle for promotions that accomplished several goals:
• provided a more engaging experience for recipients with the inclusion of relevant content (recipes, how-to’s)
• bridged the gap between print and digital using imperceptible barcodes, Facebook Messenger/kik codes (users could scan pages with a mobile device for extended content & offers or to engage with a chat bot)
• a small size optimized to print in house at low cost
• a more portable piece that is less prone to damage during handling, plus a higher end appearance and longer shelf life
• a templated layout that balances design flexibility with ease in graphic production

The RedPlum Connect app utilized Digimarc's Mobile SDK which allowed users to access online content by scanning barcoded areas in the print booklets. We denoted these areas with a brightly colored circular icon.
