Little T
portrait series for Blackpool grime artist Little T, 2017. + double-page feature in mixmag

Little T is a bit of a cultural phenomenon from Blackpool, UK - part of the UK Grime scene, an up and coming, popular UK youth & music subculture.

Grime is a genre of music that emerged in London in the early 2000s. It developed out of earlier UK electronic music styles, including UK garage and jungle, and draws influence from dancehall, raggae, and hip hop. The lyrics often revolve around gritty depictions of urban life.

I have been friends with Josh's mother for a fair few years. When Josh went viral, I suggested making some cool portraits to elevate his online presence and of course gain some exposure for my work. I had never photographed any grime artists and I didn't really know where to take this conceptually. After a little research into the culture I came up with these.

Josh has had a lot of negative critique, severe trolling and abuse since coming into the public eye. I have got to say though, that despite these opinions, Josh is a great kid, he's positive, he gets involved with community projects and supports others.
