Poster for the Summit on Human Dignity
The Commodification of the Human Person
Every year at Brophy College Prep, we host a summit on Human Dignity. This year, the summit focuses on the commodification of the human person. In this summit, many keynote speakers and teachers speak to students about different topics that are being faced in today's society including pornography, sexual abuse, human trafficking, and enslavement of people. We were assigned a project to create a poster that focused in on the injustices faced in today's society.

Inspiration
We initially got out inspiration from the trends video that we saw in class with Mr. Davis. We really liked the idea of the color channel trend along with repetition and thought it would be an interesting aspect to add to our comp.
The other inspiration that we had was with Shepard Fairey's work. We noticed that there was a unique design aspect to his work that created simple, yet powerful comps.
Ideation:
From the start, we decided that we did not want to focus on one specific topic of empowerment, rather to create something that could inspire anyone that may be facing difficulties in todays society. After some thought, we felt that the use of color would go great with our idea instead of just creating a dark poster. We first thought about using the silhouette of man with a Shephard Fairey type of design in the background. We had also seen a picture of a mouth sticking out trough a ripped sheet of paper and insatantly thought that it would be a perfect way of representing a way of breaking through silence to speak up. We thought of writing silence in the background continuously throughout the poster and to have “Speak up” written at the bottom.

Our first design was done by creating a ray background design in adobe illustrator and by placing it behind our silhouette. We kept it transparent to keep the original background their because it really stood out. The poster did not come out how we thought it would so we tried our second idea. We took the original poster, wrote silence in the background using a red, green and blue text, changed the color of the original background, and wrote speak up at the bottom.

This poster does a great job of displaying that we should break the silence to speak up for what is right. It will inspire people to speak up against the injustices faced in today's society as well as any problems they may face personally. Sadly, we face so many problems that go unnoticed, and we need people to have a voice for what is right, and this poster will empower that
