Activity 1: Behance Thumbnail
Our first assignment was a Behance Thumbnail for this class. This was inspired by Pantone palettes. I chose to make a thumbnail inspired by Pantone because of the simplicity of it. Since it was simple, this was very easy to create. The program used is adobe Photoshop. The shade of purple used is Ultra Violet which is the colour of the year and is also my favourite colour.
Activity 2: Abstract Art
In this assignment, I used the rectangle tool and played around with the opacity of each shape created. I used different shades of purple to keep with the theme. This assignment was pretty simple because you don't really need to be neat since it's abstract, anything can be out of place.

Activity 3.1: Cartoon House Attempt 1
This third assignment was to recreate the cartoon house given using illustrator. This process took a long time because I have not use Illustrator before. I had a lot of difficulty using the tools given because I did not know how they work. As you can see in the image, there are still missing spots of colours and the lines are not really consistent with the lines in the original image. The most difficulty I had was using the pen tool to create the lines that are curvy/wavy. I feel I did the best in colouring the outline in (minus the white blotches). I used different tools such as the rectangle tool and the brush tool. Hopefully, in the next attempt of this cartoon house, it'll look better.
Activity 3.2: Cartoon House Attempt 2
CH attempt 2 is better lol than the other if u compare obviously cool swag cool I'm cool this is cool. For this second , all I used was the pen tool and the rectangle tool. Comparing this to my first attempt, my second attempt obviously looks nicer and you can see how I improved using the tools in Illustrator. In the image, there are no blank spots and the lines are more consistent now. I still have difficulty recreating the bushes and 'wavy' parts, but I was able to do it from the knowledge given to me from the other assignments. I feel like I did really good at recreating the house. It was simple to do since they were just straight lines.
Activity 4: Graphic Design is... Typography Art
This assignment, we had to create typography art of whatever we wanted, but we had to use words that are related to graphic design. We had to use descriptive and technical terms to describe graphic design and also at least 10 different emotions about it. The font mostly used was Gobold Bold and the Bold Font.
I created this by using a silhouette of a hot air balloon, changed its opacity, then started fill it in with words chosen. For the colours, I chose different shades of purple because it matches the theme I currently have. I also used brown for the basket of the hot air balloon to make it seem like a real balloon. I had also added a background since the white background looked too plain to me, so I made a gradient background using a dark shade of purple and a light shade.

I used a hot air balloon because it symbolizes freedom and graphic design is freedom, you design whatever you like. The hot air balloon is also a type of transportation so like its part of your journey, you rise from the bottom(no experience) to the top(lots of experience).

My own definition of graphic design is the freedom of creating whatever images and art on a digital screen. Graphic design is versatile and can be used for many things you can think of.

Activity 5: PathFinder Assignment
This assignment was pretty effortless. We had to use the pathfinder tool create these shapes from the outline as accurately as we can. Before learning how to use the pathfinder tool, I thought the 3rd shapes and on would be hard to create, but after learning about the pathfinder tool, it was actually easy to create those shapes. The shapes I used were the rectangle, ellipse and the polygon tool. We also had to choice to pick any colour to use, so I used purple because it matches my theme for this profile. The first shape, which is a train was kind of tricky to create because I had to rotate some of the shapes to the exact spot, but it work out fine. The train was the only picture where we just had to add shapes to, and the moon is also the only one where we had to use the subtracting tool. The rest is where we had to use both adding and subtracting tools. Overall this assignment was really easy.
Activity 6: The Pen Tool
Winnipeg Jets Logo
This is it. I used the pen tool and eyedropper to create the logo excluding the circles since it was difficult to create by pen. I've just used the ellipse tool for that. I had also used the path finder tool to merge the white circle and a triangle together. Each piece, I made different layers do it's easier to keep track of. The part I had difficult with was the plane in the middle and I ended up filling in the outline of the plane and the inside seperately, Overall this assignment was simple to do.
Additional Assignment: Poster Recreation
This is my poster recreation we had been assigned in the middle of the course. This recreation assignment was pretty easy and we had to go by the theme of disco/80's. I used these colours because I thought they compliment each other well. One part of this poster I didn't like was the main title, I tried to make it look like actually neon lights, but that didn't really look good. The rest was fine, I made some words look like glowing neon lights using two copies of the object and blurring one copy to make it look like it was glowing. The dancers was made from silhouettes, then I image traced it and created it into and outline. The same goes along with the disco ball. This overall poster was inspired by dancing at night in the club hence "A Midsummer Night's Fever."
Activity 7: Simple Cartoon Pen Tool Assignment
This is my simple cartoon recreation of Ponyo. I chose Ponyo because I really liked how the graphics from Studio Ghibli looked. Ponyo also reminded me of a singer I like since they sort of look alike. From the title, I had used the pen tool to create this image. The difficult part of recreating Ponyo was creating its hair since there were a lot of different directions the line had to go. The rest of Ponyo was easy to create because i just traced the old lines and I used different layer to keep track of each part of them. After completing all of the parts, I placed them together and fixed any imperfections. For the body of Ponyo, I used the default line stroke while the leaf, I used the calligraphy looking one. This recreation was simple, so it took about 1 1/2 hours to make.
Activity 8: Complex Cartoon Pen Tool Assignment
For the complex cartoon recreation, I chose to do Sailor Saturn from Sailor Moon. I chose to do her because I really liked the aesthetic of her. For the background, I used the rectangle tool and made it a gradient, so it would match the original as close as it can. The clouds in the background was created by the ellipse tool. The rest was made with the pen tool. I would say the hardest part of recreating this was the eyes since there were many different shapes in them. I created the eyes by using different sublayers to make it simpler to work with and then I edit the shapes to match the original. The other facial features were easier to make along with the rest of the character. I really like the outcome of this recreation.
Activity 9: T-Shirt Design Mockup
This was originally a doodle on paper, but then I created a digital version using Illustrator's pencil tool. I made it look messy because I was inspired by minimalistic one line drawings, but i used more than one line if you may noticed. It still satisfies me because it looks minimal/abstract. I've also changed the line type to one that looks like a calligraphy brush. I had a thought of putting the text "FACES+PLACES" but then i realized it's an actual brand, so I changed it to "CHAOTIC MIND" since it matched the image more. The person in the picture has a blank face, but in their mind, it's a chaotic mess. Many things are happening, but they cannot express it through their face, but though their eyes. That why their eyes look 'hypnotized' or blank.
This is the mock up of the design on a white hoodie that was created using photoshop. The original hoodie had a different design on it, but I covered it using paint and replaced it with my design.
Activity 10: Hard Surface Vinyl
Here are the designs I'm using for the hard surface vinyl assignment. The diamond looking thing in the middle is a logo of one of my favourite music group/duo called "MXM(BNMBOYS)." I recreated the logo by using image trace. The design on the right side of it was from a clothing brand called "BLACKHOODY," same with the one of the left. I chose to use this design because I really like how it looked on the shirt online and I thought it looked really stylish (to me). For the left design, I image traced the biohazard part and recreated the roses since the image trace didn't catch all the details of it, so I just took a silhouette of a rose from google images and traced that to fill it in. Then I used the magic wand tool to remove the white parts of the images.
This is the mock up of the design on phone cases. I chose these colours because I thought they'd look nice with each other and it sort of looks edgy (i guess). These mock ups were edited in photoshop.
Activity 11: SHS Olympics T-Shirt Design
We were given two classes to come up with a design for out schools mini olympics. This design was inspired by patches but these will be vinyl so the effect won't be as cool as patches. The "mini olympics" is going to be outlined white as you can see below in the mockup. If I had more time, I think I would've done a better job and thought more creatively. The images used were a spartan head from google, imaged traced and then coloured red. Also the wreath part was imaged traced and coloured red. For the text, I used one that looked "medieval" so it would match our school mascot. Then I made the text curve, so it would fit in the circle image. I feel disappointed in this design since it doesn't scream "SUPER," like how the teacher wanted it to be.
The design on the front would be smaller than shown. And will be like pocket size. The back will be similar to the front design, but bigger as you can see and with different wording. This photoshop was really RUSHED since time was limited.
Assignment 11: Group Assignment; Band Door Vinyl Design
This is the mockup of our vinyl design for the band door. While creating mockups, we did many different varieties of designs before, but after consultation with teachers, we had decided to do this design for the door. The first attempt was with gold, but after looking at the door, gold wouldn't really match up with the door which was a orange/yellow wood colour. So instead, we used blue since the frame of the door was painted blue.
This mockup was created using illustrator... We used silhouettes of instruments/music notes and image traced them. The lines were created with the pen tool and the window was filled with a dark blue rectangle. Then the mockup was sent to the band teacher to confirm.
Final Product~

The process for installing the vinyl was quite difficult for the windows, the rest of the vinyl on the door was pretty easy install. Installing the vinyl on the window was pretty tricky because we had to be slow with it and we had to keep it straight. Also the window wasn't smooth since there were old glue and tape residue on it. There were some bubbles that formed, but they were easily removed with the help of a knife and a squeegee. In the end, there were still some texture left on the window, but its not that noticeable from afar. Also, the music note from the actual mockup turned out different during the cutting of the vinyl.
For the vinyl on the door, it was easier since it wasn't in a small tight space. We started off with doing the lines first, then individually added the instruments on. If you compare the final to the mockup, you can see we had made minor changes to the instruments since there were errors made during cutting the vinyl. For the upper vinyl on the door, we had to remove the numbers and name sign so we can easily install it on. In the end, the door looks really nice.
Assignment 12 : Alignment, Size & Colour
This assignment was pretty easy to do. We had to re create this image using rectangles with the exact colour and size in Adobe Illustrator. Setting up grids and rulers we could get the exact size the assignment asked for. For the finding the exact colour, I used the colour guide with CMYK options and typed in the codes for the specified colour.
