Prior to the introduction of modern day sleep disturbances and the invention of electric light, our natural circadian rhythms (patterns of sleep and wake) were synchronized by the rising and setting of the sun.

In todays modern world, human beings have lost this basic, instinctual connection with nature and the natural cycles of what our world literally revolves around.

The concept of the space as a sundial is a visual representaion of a full, daily cycle of the sun, synchronizing the space and its occupants with the suns rhythms.

While Patients with sleep disorders have very individual conditions, they have one thing in common: their cycles of sleep and wake are out of balance.

Balance is the core concept behind Ayurveda, an ancient Indian medicine which is practiced in the States as complementary or alternative medicine.

Ayurveda is rooted in the idea that the human body is composed of four elements, earth, air, fire, and water, and that each element has various associations, such as the senses, directions, colors, and parts of the human body. The key to good health is maintaining a balance of these elements. Poor health is a sign that there is an imbalance of elements within the body.

The grand/core concept for the design of this unique healthcare facility is BALANCE. Where for every yin, there is a yang, and every part is that of a whole.
