Jonboy Caramels is a Seattle-based artisan caramel company with a fierce dedication to local, organic ingredients. In 2009, Jon Sue and Jason Alm came together with the idea of making the finest small-batch caramels in their Ballard kitchen. Started as a sweet side business, Jonboy Caramels quickly gained steam via Seattle's bustling farmer's market scene and now their iconic brown boxes can be found in grocery stores, markets, and shops throughout the U.S. Although Jonboy is now available nationwide, 100% of its product is handcrafted and hand-packaged from Jon and Jason's local kitchen.
My product photography for Jonboy Caramels is an ongoing project I began in 2016. Jonboy's devotion to fresh, organic ingredients informed my approach and inspired the clean, spare aesthetic I've used throughout their suite. The caramels' simple, wholesome ingredients take the spotlight alongside their classic brown box (a universally-recognized symbol for silky treats within Seattle!).
The caramel flavors featured here include black absinthe, whiskey and smoked applewood salt, fleur de sel, and molasses ginger.

Because Jonboys are made by hand, every caramel is unique. I love studying each piece's varied fleur de sel salt pattern when I capture these beauties through macro photography. It's a reminder that locally-made food tells a worthwhile story!
