In 2017 Tshikululu briefed Nicework on the design and development of their annual report. Having designed the TSI Annual Report in 2016, we were challenged with creating the next evolution in the series by extending the established look and feel. Pull-out infographics, a striking signature graphic device, and distinctive typography had worked well the previous year. But what was the next step?
The Tshikululu spirograph graphic device had initially been illustrated to be representative of money and growth. This year we wanted to show the possibilities for what that money could do. We knew that: Tshikululu brings light into darkness, enabling growth and development across many spheres.

The spirograph appeared on images of projects where they had made a big difference - illustrating the dawn of a new era. Our big idea was a golden horizon line running throughout the book, starting with a gold-foiled cover. Colour treated photography shows the horizon line, with the Tshikululu graphic placed in a rising sun position. This gave a sense of expansiveness and possibility. Images evolved from landscape to cityscape, showcasing the variety of projects which Tshikululu are involved in.
A key highlight for us was the printing and finishing of the report. A pure white, with a foiled gold sunrise is distinctive and impactful. The inside folds out to reveal a bold landscape image in the front and a golden cityscape at the back. The book was printed on Magno Satin, with a matt laminate finish.
