Traveling is such a learning experience, and one of the biggest aspects of the learning process is packing for the trip. A lot of times, we look to pack all the things that we think we need especially as novice travelers. However, as we gain more experience with the process, we begin to notice that we are actually bringing a lot more than we need. You will find so many articles out there that give you tips on what you should pack, but there aren’t many that guides you through the items that you can leave at home. Overpacking is something we are all guilty of and should be more aware of, so take a look at this list of some of the top items you can forget to pack for your next vacation.

Packing expensive jewelry, no matter where you’re going is never a good idea. Doing so typically puts a huge target on you for potential theft. You don’t want to walk around anywhere with your flashy watch or necklace on your person. Plus, chances are you may only wear these once or twice for some kind of special occasion. For this reason, it is best that you minimize your risk of theft and just leave them at home. By not having with you will also help you blend in and look more like one of the locals. Now, if you find it absolutely necessary to bring them, make sure you don’t wear them every day and to keep them locked in a safety deposit box when you’re not wearing them.

We’ve all been there before, packing way more clothes that we actually need. There’s a great saying that goes: “pack half the clothes and twice the money.” A great way to prepare is to lay out all the clothes you plan to bring and all the money you plan on bringing. Once you have done this, pack only half of the clothes and double the amount of money you planned on bringing. When it comes to clothes, you want to keep it as simple as possible. So, pack basic clothes of neutral colors that you can mix-and-match. If you want something more dressy, then look for an option that you can also dress down so that you can wear it more than once.

We all have items like this that we pack for every trip.
