I created my own Japanese kamon with just a plain artist's pen. Kamon or just mon, are "emblems used to decorate and identify an individual or family." Similar to European family crests, kamon were commonly seen as fabric patterns on clothing, flags, and equipment. I messed around with elements in nature, design, and our initials to come up with these. I took it further with the lotus design and screen printed a 2013 calendar - which happens to be for sale on my Etsy shop.
In many Asian cultures the lotus flower represents elegance, beauty, perfection, purity, and grace.
