San Diego Padres Sign Former All-Star Allen Craig

An avid cook and lover of plays and musicals, Nadia Larysa is also a passionate baseball fan. Because her favorite city is San Diego, California, Nadia Larysa considers the San Diego Padres to be her favorite Major League Baseball (MLB) team.

The Padres are hoping a low-risk signing pays major dividends in the 2018 season. In January, the team signed former World Series Champion and All-Star Allen Craig to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training. An eighth-round pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft, Craig finished in the top 20 for MVP voting in both 2012 and 2013, but was traded to the Boston Red Sox the following year and had his career derailed by injuries. Despite hitting a combined 35 home runs and producing 189 runs batted in (RBI) in the previous two seasons with the Cardinals, Craig hit only two home runs and recorded five RBI in 65 games with Boston over the course of two seasons.

He made $11 million last season but played only 47 games for Boston's AAA minor-league affiliate. The Red Sox bought out his contract in June of last year and, as a result, owe him $1 million this season.
