The North Face Jacket

The intention of this project is to make my portfolio more 'hireable' and practical such as product photography and something like look books while still maintaining some of the dark style I have developed in my photography.

Had a jacket that proved super water-proof in Iceland when shooting around waterfalls. I am so in love with this jacket that I came with this water-proof showcasing concept.

Fake advertisement that doesn't really fit TNF brand identity which is based more around action shots of athletes but this is all I had on hand.

Modeled and shot by myself because this was more of an impulsive shoot at home and I didn't get anyone to model it for me, so getting my 5D Mk. II to focus well on a black jacket was a bit tricky and a bit of an trial and error (took about 270 shots, which is not that bad really).

For the text I used their official fonts and brand guidelines including their trademarked "NEVER STOP EXPLORING" motto.
See their (old) brand manual here:

The lighting was inspired by ACRONYM product photography:

Which in my opinion consists of an overhead softbox, 2 rim-lights and a bounce card under the camera. The rim lights seem to be set in a way so they don't hit the face but only emphasize the cut of the clothing.
In post-production I mainly concentrated on high contrast in the jacket, overall detail in the fabric and droplets.
The droplets are emphasized by really cranking up their specular reflections in PS almost to the point of losing detail.
Even though I shot on f/8 I used quite a bit of sharpening.
The goal for the color-grading was a bit of a colder look on the jacket while maintaining realistic skin tone (I masked out the hands and face and color-graded them separately to the jacket).
