The ship of Theseus, or the Theseus paradox, is a thought experiment where a great ship ridden by Theseus is in use for many years. Because of common degradation, pieces of wood fall off of the ship after every journey and must be replaced and repaired with new materials. After a time, no original wood from the ship exists, and the paradox questions whether it is still the same ship. 

We leave traces of DNA everywhere we go; the body’s cells die and replace themselves every few years, leaving humans with no strict original pieces that have always existed within their body. 

The question that arises with technology’s hand in genetics and further combination of physical mechanics into organic material, is the “integrity of forms”. As a mutable identity develops, a person more relates parts of their body to objects.  There is a disembodied conception of “the body” which becomes both sublime and grotesque. A body as a physical shell would not be disturbed by inorganic material becoming integrated, as all pieces of the form are viewed objectively and separate from personal identity.
