Calligraphy Kana Type
カリグラフィーは文字を美しく記す方法として西洋や中東で発展してきた芸術です、東洋にも似たような経緯を持つものとして書が挙げられますがこれら二つはその見た目からして異なる部分が多くあります。
その理由には様々な要因が考えられますが大きなものとして筆記具の違いがあるのではないでしょうか。前者はペンを用い、後者は筆を用います。ペンを使った筆記は再現性が高く同じ形を繰り返すことでリズムが生まれます、筆による筆記は流動性が高く、書いた時の勢いや息遣いをそのまま保つことができます。つまりペンの場合は文字のリピートによって、筆の場合は文字の構成によってその美しさを成り立たせているのです。
この作品は筆の文字として誕生したひらがなをペンの文字として再構築する、という試みから製作しました。ペンの使い方が特徴的な４つの書体を選び、その筆跡や形を再構成することによってひらがなの形を作っています。ラテン文字と混植した際もそのリズムを崩さずに共存しているのではないでしょうか。
もちろんかなの形を無理やり変形させているので決して読みやすくはありません、いつかカリグラフィーの美しさとかなの美しさ、その中庸をはかった書体を改めて作りたいなと考えています。
Calligraphy is an art that has developed in the West and the Middle East as a way to describe characters beautifully, also 書 has developed in orient. However these two arts are looks different.
There are various reasons for that reason, but maybe there are differences in writing instruments as big ones. The former uses a pen, the latter uses a brush. Writing with a pen has high reproducibility and make rhythm by repeating the same shape. Writing with a writing brush has high fluidity, it can keep the momentum and breathing at the time of writing as it is. In other words, in the case of a pen, by repeating, and in the case of a brush, in composition, beauty would make.
This work was made from an attempt to reconstruct hiragana which was born as a character of a brush as a character of a pen. I select four font types that are distinctive in how to use the pen, and reconfigure the shape and construction to create the shape of hiragana. Even when mixed with latin letters, it probably coexists without losing its rhythm.
Of course, because I forcibly deform the shape of hiragana it is never easy to read, I think someday I want to create a font that took up the beauty of calligraphy and the beauty of kana, its moderate.
