editing images of beautiful women making them seem akward. raising questins about our societies value system and perception of beauty.
This Project concerns itself with themes such as our society’s ideas of beauty, social conventions and expectations as well as the questioning of our value system. Portraits of young, beautiful woman are edited to seem slightly unusual, awkward or less beautiful by the distortion of facial features. The changes made are visible yet subtle and not as funny or lighthearted as caricatures. The dark background and riegel poses as well as the positioning of the picture is reminiscent to classical portraits giving the works a more sincere feeling and underline the importance of the questions of acceptability and beauty. In Fashion Magazines images are slightly retouched to make the subject more beautiful but in this project they were retouched to look slightly less beautiful provoking the viewer to question himself and his society and the ideals thrown upon us.
