“The theme for this year’s convocation was inspired from both Nature and Colour Perception. The two leaves in the centre represents growth, which is an inevitable process of nature; and since education is a learning curve for UTB students to gain new insights and skills, they are capable of developing, improving and producing new ideas to solve certain problems in the field of technology, engineering, business and so forth.

New inventions may not be perfect, but if an individual is determined, they can work through the difficulties and determine the components to be refined or enhanced. This is illustrated in the use of the blue and yellow dots, which are components of the Ishihara test, a colour perception test. The different dots symbolise the different ideas and experiences generated by the students from the setbacks to the triumphs.

It creates a context that revolves around the perception of new inventions where, as innovators we have to make the distinction between the winning ideas and the probable misfires. This value-added quality can help to inspire them to learn from mistakes and motivate them to create a newer and improved project.

The use of the colour green throughout is to symbolize the fresh new ideas and inventions created by UTB students. 

Lastly, the overall structure of the design forms the number 5 in arabic to signify this to be the 5th Convocation ceremony of UTB Undergraduates.”
