Film Production Pipeline

Roles and Jobs:

Producer: A producer has the overall control over the production they bring together the major members of the creative team. They also approve shooting locations, final script, production schedule and budget.

Director: The Director is responsible for overseeing the shooting and assembly of the film. The director works at the centre of a film but there are different people working with him to make the film.

Screenwriter: The Screenwriter is the heart of the production, as all stories need an author to bring them to life. The Screenwriter writes the sript of the movie, all the character interactions and story detail.

Production Designer: Production designers are responsible for the entire art department.Before one inch of film is shot, the production designer is the first artist to translate the script into visual form. He or she creates a series of storyboards that serve as the film's first draft.

Cinematographer: Also known as the director of photography. They are responsible for the technical side of the production. He oversees the lightning and the camera placement to achieve the creative direction of the director. 

Editor: Works in the pre-production phase. The Editor is responsible for organizing footage and arranging them into one continuous sequence.

Actors: Responsible for being the characters in the film with the help of the Director and Cinematographer.

Art Director: Oversees the art involved in the making of the films settings.

Costume Designer: The Costume Designer is in charge of the physical appearance of the actors and portraying who the characters are visually.

Grip and Gaffers: Grips are in charge of building and maintaining equipment that supports the cameras. Equipment like tripods, dollies and cranes. The Gaffers are in charge of building and maintaining lightning equipment.

Cameraman: The Cameraman is in charge of handling the camera and as well as the technical aspects of the camera. This involves using lens and camera settings to capture scenes according to the Directors and Cinematographer‘s liking.

Music Supervisor: The music supervisor works in post production and assures the music for the film is being written, recorded, produced, registered, etc. They are also responsible for securing rights to the music and managing the budget put towards getting the music. They may also act as the director’s guide to choosing the right music for the film.

Foley Artist: The foley artists work in post production. Their job is to recreate detailed and specific sounds that otherwise cannot be heard or need to be more precise from the original filming. They replicate sounds using physical props.
