HICCUP MAGAZINE
Issue 1 Kitsch
Editorial Design
2013

What is a magazine? What is the future of magazines? We were thinking about these questions. You always hear that magazines and books are dead and that new media eliminates them. We think that magazines can still exist next to the new technologies like tablets, e-books or others. Our project is dealing with these questions and could give a new impulse.

We want to show that the production of a magazine can also be efficient, fast and spontaneous in content as well as in design. Instead of fighting against new media and new technology we will use them to create a different kind of magazine. Regarding to the spirit of our time we also decided to develop an interactive community around the magazine.

We present HICCUP - THE SPONTANEOUS MAGAZINE. It's the first spontaneous magazine worldwide. With the new technology of smartphones there are a lot of new possibilities offered to each of us. You are able to take pictures of every situation, to go online, to check your mails easily, to use social media, even to check out the latest news on blogs. So why not using these facts to create a spontaneous magazine in which everyone can participate?

People that are interested have to sign in by sending an email containing their name and mobile number. Participants will get a confirmation email with details. Just when they are least expecting it they will receive an SMS by HICCUP MAGAZINE with the theme of the upcoming issue. After that they have to take a spontaneous photo with their mobile phone, interpreting the theme in whatever way they choose. They have six hour to take the photo and send it back to HICCUP MAGAZINE. After we collected all the photos we create the magazine as spontaneously as possible.
