Juru Parkir: Indonesia Culture Game

Juru Parkir is a simulation game of person who handles parking area. A game which inspired from real life phenomenon in Indonesia. Simply by drag and drop vehicle who wants to park, and tap the vehicle if he/she wants to leave. Discover different type of drivers, unique parking style, and epic Indonesian local language!

Story Behind
The idea came out when I was in Batam, Indonesia. Every time I went to a small store, coffee shop, or recreation area, I saw a guy wearing an orange vest guiding drivers to get a parking spot. Interestingly, every driver who wanted to leave the parking area was required to give a tip to that guy and people called him with Juru Parkir / Parking Attendant. Photos are taken from Google.
This phenomenon is so familiar in Indonesia and the unique thing is society doesn't really know this job is legal. Most drivers are forced to give tips because they don't want to quarrel with Parking Attendant. However, Parking Attendant brings benefit to drivers, they will watch driver's vehicles in parking areas from thieves so that drivers can be more secured to leave their vehicles in the parking area.

Because of that, I want to tell a story about them and game platform is the most suitable platform for it. I want users to experience how it feels to be a Parking Attendant and how Parking Attendant works on the field. This game also entertains players and tells a story about Indonesian culture.

Early Design
Back then it was my final project in my last semester at college. Main job of Parking Attendant is parking management, they manage how the vehicles park in the area. The closest mechanic game is a management game like Diner Dash, Pizza Frenzy, etc. Then tweak a bit of the object with vehicles, add a stamina bar to show users their stamina while working, and adapt the obstacles with local events such as double parking.

Crafting of Juru Parkir 2.0
I develop the level until 30 levels, add 2 more cities with variety of obstacles based on the city, add street seller that pass by on street to replenish the stamina bar, and pro tips at loading screens.
Yogyakarta is a city filled with cultural heritage and traditional arts of Java. The traffic in this city is controllable. So I put Yogyakarta first as a warming up session and introducing the game mechanic. I added some details from the local vibes: Delman (light horse-drawn vehicle), Becak (cycle rickshaw), and the most famous local food Gudeg. The story of this city is users are working at Rumah Makan (restaurant) in speciality on Gudeg and managing customer vehicles that come for eat.
The next city is Bali, a tourism city well-known with its beaches, rice paddies, and coral reefs. The traffic is controllable but when the holiday season come it causes traffic in certain areas. Majority are motor drivers so I made this city a fully motorcycle park. Some details I added on are: Tourism Bus, Cat, Information Board like free music at this bar. The story of this city is users are managing motorcycles near a beach, sometimes a tourism bus stop to drop passengers, and cats appear out of nowhere.
Last city is Jakarta, a metropolitan city with extremely bad traffic. People can park their vehicles just at the side of the street, and go somewhere for a while. All the obstacles from previous cities are combined. Some details I added to it are: Kopaja (public transportation with orange-blue colours), Metromini (public transportation with grey-green colours), and Warung (semi-resturant). The story of this city is that users are managing driver's vehicles who want to park at the side of the street and go to eat at warung around.
