The main illustrations for the "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket" by Edgar Allan Poe (the book was first published in 1837), the only completed novel by Edgar Poe and one of his most controversial works.
This is one of my favorite books, I love everything from delicate encyclopedic hoaxes to a frenzied storytelling. In the design of this book, I wanted to achieve my ideal - to make not so much illustrations that repeat events, since no illustrations can compete with Poe's literary style, but give to the reader a visual context of events. I always stressed the lack of additions and information when reading books of this kind, and loved books with an abundance of add-ons. Of course, this slows down the pace but also immerses the reader deeper into the world of events described. I didn't make an illustration of the two chapters in the second half of the book since the narrative in them is extremely crumpled and bumpy. So, here are 23 illustrations, the dimensions of all the blocks are 155х210 mm. All illustrations are made in the technique of linocuts.
