I find that "poem mosaics" best describes this series.
The “fracture" of the “mosaic” is created by outlining the letters of text in ink until I reach the bottom of the page, at which point I turn the page 90° and overlay the continuing text above the previous passage, repeating the process until the text has been fully written.
The actual text becomes unreadable and the fracture is created, inviting the selection of colors. The color is then applied in a mathematical and rather meditative fashion. All pieces are done with ink and colored pencil on a Bristol vellum; the average measure is approximately 6” x 9”.
The written text is my own, derived from dreams and other gifts as well as the state of our world. A couple of the pieces allow me to express a bit of simmering rage. But mostly the theme is gratitude for all the good fortune with which I have been gifted.
