Six weeks prior to the NFL Kickoff for the 2016 season, the decision was made to completely replace the previous scoreboard graphics package with something new. It also had to be done in-house. Specifically, by one person: Myself.

As the Denver Broncos won Super Bowl 50 on the strength of their defense, I made it a point to reflect that same relentless defensive mentality on the design of the scoreboard rebrand. This meant a lot of fire, metal, shaking cameras, with a dash of futurism to create a juxtaposition of aggression and color.

At the end of the day,This included new Team Matchups, Scoring Animations, Sponsored replay wipes, Backgrounds, Logo rockers, Crowd prompts, and a multitude of other deliverables for different sizes and screens.

The project evolved throughout the season. This was added several weeks into the season after additional experimentation with Saber and Element 3D.

Due to the various screen sizes throughout the stadium, there had to be made alternate layouts for the animations. This was true for almost every animation.

There was a lot of Saber from VideoCopilot used in this project. By using Illustrator files for the team logos, exact paths could be brought over as masks to power the tracing effect.

The replay wipe was turned into a template to easily drop any sponsor logo inside a comp and immediately work.

This project relied heavily on Element 3D. Iteration and render times were much more efficient in this workflow than in a traditional 3D pipeline. Due to it's native compatibility with Cinema4D, elements could be modeled and UVed to work within Element.

The built-in text options within Element were crucial in iterating animations, which allowed much more variety in the animations played. An additional bonus was that Saber read text layers in a very similar way, which meant a single update to a text layer would have rippling effects to both Element and Saber.
