Is this figure leaving or arriving? Does it walk towards the light or stepping into the dark?

It's always a profound and astonishing experience when you realize how much an intuitive painting can express your inner turmoil. I'm not a religious person, but it's also clear that my Catholic background shows through this madonna like shape reminding me of Renaissance and late 19th century paintings. Maybe I should have entitled it "Böcklin meets Klee"...
