JCB Brawn

The main objective behind this project is to produce a Design for Manufacturing. The Target user for the Cordless drill are Prosumers, these are early adopters of Web 2.0 products and services. They want simple to use and seamless solutions and are frequent , intensive users of the internet and mobile technologies.
Brawn is a prospective power-tool that breaks up with the conventions. With Brawn the drill is no longer a garage tool, but becomes a simple and elegant product specially developed for prosumers. The drill  supports an Ergonomic Handle for better grip and comfortable usage, it’s designed for improved heat regulation during heavy usage, while minimizing the overall vibration impact on the users.
Brawn contains varied toned LED’s to illuminate the workplace that can be adjusted according to the changing environment. It consists of a robust case made from impact resistant polymers and carefully placed rubbers inserts around the body to increase the durability of the product. It also has a vertical battery retention system and multiple vents and fans to allow sufficient cooling and protect from dust.
Using the above 3d model, a 1:1 sized prototype was developed. Here the top part was done using a CNC Machine, the chuck and battery pack were 3d printed to the scale. To start with, all the parts were sanded using a range of sand papers, then layers of primer were applied to the sanded body to make the surface smooth. Matte Spray Paint were used to have a even paint finishing throughout the model. Finally, Graphics were created using Adobe illustrator and then printed to the scale of the prototype.
Here’s a in-situation render of the Concept.
Thanks a lot for going through this project. Hope you liked it!
