When Isaac Newton formulated his 3 laws of motion late 1600s, it was an embodiment of a philosophy in physics that came to be known as the philosophy of Determinism. In a nutshell, Determinism means that every event or action is completely determined by a previous existing cause. And that the knowledge of past events assures the knowledge of their future.
In the second half of the 20th century another contradicting philosophy in physics came to light. This philosophy was popularly known as "the Butterfly Effect", or in scientific terms as the "chaos theory". Both names refer to a system' sensitivity to its initial conditions, meaning that any small change in the initial condition of a system may lead to significantly different future behavior. Which makes predictions of future events very difficult and not as Determinism proclaims, determined.
Many aspects of nature show complex patterns that appear to be nothing but chaos. Fractals provide an image of dynamic systems thus they might be the face of chaos.
This exhibition is a representation of the chaotic face of nature. It investigates Newton's laws of motion, through the movements of birds and butterflies, in light of the fractal geometry of nature. In a way, it's an investigation of two contradicting theories, through the eyes of an artist, rather than a scientist.
And I didn't worry to much about keeping my post-processing of my fractal works in this exhibition to a minimum, as I only wanted to get my vision through whatever the technique. Hence you can find paintings mostly pure fractal and others with some later work done with an image editing software.
