The space begins with words only, signs traced on the black page.

Self-initiated editorial project inspired by Georges Perec's writing The Page, included in the book Species of Spaces and other Pieces.
Georges Perec was a member of the Oulipo, a loose gathering of French writers and mathematicians seeking to create works using constrained writing techniques and playful poetic combinations.

The objective of my research was to celebrate Perec's writing style, investigating the spatial dimension of The Page. I designed a booklet based on a set of constraints related to Perec's writing. The playfulness of his style is reflected in the 16 pages concertina format. The layout also includes black and white pictures that celebrate the poetry behind the light, the texture and gesture connected with books, pages and writing.
The modular grid and minimal design emulate the tight mathematical and geometrical structures in Perec's work.
The reader needs to fold, unfold or turn down the pages to navigate the book, as if he was playing with a sheet of paper. This structure reflects Perec's playful writing style.
Thank you!
