My aim was to give Lem's famous work a new guise which transcends and reformulates the usual layout of sci-fi literature which originated in the 70-ies. The work has been guided by the basic insight that typography and pictorial elements have to constitute a unity; they have to portray the bizarre configurations as described in the book and refer to the true nature of the ocean which is unaccessible by human mind. The inscriptions have to be deciphered in the same way as an alien being which is inconceivable for us - and as in many other cases, understanding is doomed to fail.
