Sylvia Dekyndt's profile

Conté drawing, 1992. Old masterwork reproduction.

Here are some of the artworks that I’ve made using charcoal, chalk pastel, oil painting, and Conté drawing technique. Three of them are old masterworks reproduction.

Also included are two Web pages and one business logo that I’ve designed, as examples of my skills in computer graphics, though I much prefer art which is not virtual.
Conté drawing, 1992. Reproduction based on the work of the old master Gaetano Gandolfi. Conté drawing technique is by far my favorite. This was my first Conté drawing. I always do an old masterwork reproduction the first time I try a new drawing or painting technique.
Charcoal crayon portrait of David Bowie, 1984. This was my very first portrait, and this is when the art of portrait painting  turned out into a real  passion.
Innocence, 1994. Chalk pastel portrait of one of my friend's children.
Charcoal crayon, 1984. Portrait of Olivier Guimond, a famous Quebec humorist.
Conté and chalk pastel drawing, 1994. Portrait of my daughter when she was five.
Chalk pastel painting, 1990. Reproduction based on the work of the old master Jean Siméon Chardin. This was my first chalk pastel portrait. Again I closely studied the technique of this old master, who is considered  to be one of the best French crayon painter of the 18th century.
Oil on canvas, 2000. Reproduction based on the work of the old master George de La Tour. This is my first oil painting. At this stage, this painting represent one full year and a half of work, since I've prepared everything. That is choosing the linen canvas; put it on a frame; making linseed oil more siccative; preparing the support base; carefully choosing the pigments; color and other medium preparation; and so on, all according to an old 15th century technique, in order to ensure this painting a very long life.

This oil study will require another year of work for completion. Oil painting is quite demanding, but what can I say, I just love it too. ;-)

Hereunder, I've put another picture (which is not really good since I'm a poor photographer), just so you can have a closer look at it. Up to this day, I still can't figure out  from what angle I took that picture. For sure, there's quite a weird angle on the right side.
Chalk pastel, 2003. This portrait of a Hindi girl (based on a book cover photograph) is a quick study, only a sketch in fact, to try a color palette that I  do like a lot.

Finally, hereunder is one logo design and two other Web page design templates I did in 1999.
